Questions Before Your Climb
Everything you need to know about booking a private climbing experience for one to six climbers.
Getting Started
Do I need climbing experience?
No experience is required. Many guests have never climbed outdoors before. We start with the essentials—equipment, movement, rope systems, communication, and how to read natural rock—then progress at a pace that works for you.
What if I’m afraid of heights?
That is completely normal. Climbing involves real height, exposure, and risk. Matt has extensive experience working with nervous first-timers and keeps the pace calm and relaxed. You choose how far you want to go, and you will never be pressured to climb beyond your comfort level.
How is outdoor climbing different from a gym?
Real rock has no colored holds or preset movement. You learn to read natural features, move across uneven terrain, communicate outside, and understand how outdoor rope systems work. The session can serve as either a first climbing experience or a bridge from gym climbing to real rock.
Can experienced climbers book too?
Absolutely. Private sessions can focus on outdoor movement, technique, route selection, rappelling, anchor skills, or the transition from gym climbing to outdoor climbing. Share your experience and goals when booking so the day can be built around what you want to learn.
Families & Small Groups
Is outdoor climbing appropriate for families?
Yes. Rope Wranglers regularly guides families and adapts the climbing, instruction, and pace to the group. Outdoor climbing has inherent risks, so Matt makes ongoing decisions about the terrain, equipment, weather, and activities appropriate for your family.
What ages can participate?
Children ages five and older may participate with a parent or guardian. Readiness also depends on the child’s ability to follow instructions and fit the available equipment. Contact Matt before booking if you are uncertain.
Can different ability levels climb together?
Yes. Each outing is private, so the routes and difficulty can be adjusted throughout the session. One person can pursue a harder challenge while another stays closer to the ground. Everyone can participate at their own level.
What does a family gain from climbing together?
Climbing creates a shared challenge without screens or scoreboards. It asks families to communicate, encourage one another, and build trust. Children often surprise their parents, parents surprise themselves, and everyone leaves with a story they experienced together.
Trip Details & Booking
How long is the trip and what does it cost?
A private guided climbing experience lasts approximately four hours. The starting price is $250 for one climber, plus $85 for each additional climber, up to six climbers total.
Will other people join our session?
No. This is a private experience reserved for your party and guide. You will not be combined with another booking. That gives us the freedom to adjust the location, instruction, routes, and pace around your group.
What equipment is provided?
Helmets, harnesses, climbing shoes, ropes, and all technical equipment are included. Bring comfortable clothing, water, a snack, sunscreen, and a small backpack. See the Essentials Checklist for more details.
Where will we climb?
Private trips take place in the Flatirons, Boulder Canyon, or Flagstaff Mountain. Matt selects the location based on your experience, goals, group size, weather, and current conditions. You will receive exact meeting information before the trip.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Colorado weather can change quickly. Matt monitors conditions and may change the location or start time when appropriate. If Rope Wranglers cancels because of weather, unsafe conditions, or a closure, you may choose a full refund, free reschedule, or credit.
