Climb Boulder’s Iconic Flatirons
The First, Second, and Third Flatirons shape Boulder’s famous skyline. Each offers a different kind of climbing day—from an easy introduction to a true summit adventure.
Three icons · three different days
Start with the experience you want.
You do not need to know which Flatiron is right before booking. Compare the overall feel, then tell your guide what sounds exciting. The final objective is matched to your goals, fitness, weather, conditions, and seasonal closures.

The easiest introduction
Second Flatiron
Try a real Flatiron without making the day feel enormous.
The Second is the easiest and least committing of the three iconic formations. It is ideal for anyone who wants to experience Flatirons climbing with a moderate level of fitness for the approach and length of the route.
Availability depends on weather, wet sandstone, wildlife closures, daylight, and current trail conditions. The final objective is confirmed around the actual day.
For a bigger objective
The Maiden
The Maiden is not simply another numbered Flatiron. It is a full-day, mountain-style adventure with a longer approach, exposed traversing, a wild summit, and an involved rappel descent. Guided for one or two climbers, it is best suited to experienced climbers who want the most adventurous option on this page.

Common questions
Before choosing a Flatiron
A few useful distinctions. The individual climb pages will handle the details.
Which Flatiron is easiest?
The Second Flatiron is the easiest and least committing option here. It is a strong choice for someone who wants to try a Flatiron without taking on the length and complexity of the First or Third.
Which is the classic Boulder adventure?
The First Flatiron offers the most complete year-round combination of long slab climbing, a dramatic ridge traverse, a true summit, and a 100-foot rappel.
When can the Third Flatiron be climbed?
The Third Flatiron is generally open from August 1 through January 31, with its seasonal wildlife closure beginning February 1. Current closure information and conditions are always confirmed before the trip.
How many people can climb together?
The First, Second, and Third Flatirons can be guided for groups of up to four climbers. The Maiden is limited to two climbers because it is a longer and more involved objective.
Do I have to choose before booking?
No. You can request a specific formation, or simply describe the kind of experience you want. The final objective is matched to your group and the conditions.
