Climbing Clinic FAQ
-
No experience is required for the Free Intro to Outdoor Climbing or the Top Rope Social Club. Those are the best places to start if you are new to outdoor climbing, coming from the gym, or unsure where you fit.
For Sport Climbing Social Club, some basic climbing experience is helpful, especially if you have belayed or climbed with ropes before.
For Bouldering Social Club, gym bouldering experience helps, but you do not need outdoor bouldering experience. If you are unsure, start with the free intro or Top Rope Social Club.
-
Choose Top Rope Social Club if you want the friendliest entry point into outdoor climbing. It is ideal for beginners, gym climbers moving outside, and anyone who wants ropes, coaching, and a lower-pressure environment.
Choose Sport Climbing Social Club if you want to build confidence with lead climbing, clipping, rope management, anchor cleaning, and climbing sport routes outside.
Choose Bouldering Social Club if you want movement coaching, crash pads, spotting, projecting, and a more casual social session without ropes.
-
Each session is a small-group outdoor climbing meetup led by Rope Wranglers. You will climb outside, get coaching, learn useful outdoor skills, and meet other climbers.
This is not just a guided tour and it is not a formal gym class. It is a weekly way to climb outside with guidance, structure, and community.
-
All technical climbing gear is provided, including harness, helmet, shoes, ropes, and crash pads when needed.
Bring water, sunscreen, snacks, and comfortable clothes you can move in. Evening sessions can cool down quickly, so layers are smart even in summer.
Closed-toe approach shoes are recommended for walking around outdoor climbing areas.
-
Social Clubs are kept small so everyone gets attention, coaching, and climbing time.
The goal is for the group to feel social and supportive, not crowded. You should expect a small-group setting where you can ask questions, get feedback, and meet other climbers.
-
Yes. Most people come because they want to meet other climbers.
The Social Clubs are built for people who want a regular way to climb outside, find partners, and become more comfortable at the crag. You do not need to bring a partner.
-
No. You will never be forced to lead climb.
Top Rope Social Club is built around climbing on ropes without needing to lead. Sport Climbing Social Club can include lead climbing progression, but we move at your pace. If you are still building confidence, you can work on belaying, movement, clipping practice, anchor systems, or top-rope climbing first.
Fear of falling is normal. The goal is to build skill and confidence gradually.
-
A single Social Club drop-in is $65.
A 4-session punch pass is $225 and can be used for eligible Social Club sessions. Punch passes expire 120 days after purchase.
-
Outdoor climbing depends on weather and conditions. If a session needs to be canceled or moved because of rain, lightning, wet rock, or unsafe conditions, Rope Wranglers will communicate updates and help you reschedule when possible.
-
If you already climb outside confidently, have partners, and manage your own systems, the Social Clubs may be more about community and mileage than instruction.
If you have climbed outside but still feel unsure about partners, anchors, leading, movement on real rock, or finding a regular crew, the Social Clubs are probably a good fit.
When in doubt, email matt@ropewranglers.com and describe where you are at.
This is a club where you won't just have climbed outside, you’ll have built real skills and met some cool people.
